West THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER Thursday, February 26, 1998 In the Region Barbara J. Parks Ashley Halsey Jr. Teacher, 58 Reporter and editor, 89 Barbara J. Price Parks, 58, an elementary school teacher, died of cancer Tuesday at her home in Havertown. Until June 1996, Mrs.

Parks was a substitute teacher in the Haverford School District for 14 years, working with both regular and specialeducation students. She began her career teaching school in the Interboro School District in 1961 and left in 1964 to raise a family, She was born in Drexel Hill and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1957 and from Millersville (Pa.) University in 1960. Mrs. Parks had resided in Haverford for 31 years and was a member there of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a former member and Sunday school teacher at Christ Lutheran Church in Upper Darby.

She was also a member of the Haverford Youth Aid Panel, a charter member of the Broomall Breakfast Optimist Club and chairwoman of the group's Youth of the Month Club. Mrs. Parks was also a former Republican committeewoman in Haverford and a volunteer teacher for the Delaware County Literacy Council. She was a doll collector and was a charter member of the Betsy Ross Toy and Doll Club and a member of the Letitia Penn Doll Club. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joseph "Mike" Parks; three daughters, Susan Novak, Jennifer Jeandell and Janice; a sister and a brother.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Frank C. Videon Funeral Home, Sproul and Lawrence Roads, Broomall. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.

Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Havertown Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill. The family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, 600 N. Louis J. Amadio Jr. Oversaw golf course, 82 Louis J. Amadio 82, of Belmont Hills, a retired golf course superintendent, died Monday at Integrated Health Services in Whitemarsh. Mr.

Amadio retired in 1981 as superintendent of the Philadelphia Electric Co. golf course in Upper Darby. He oversaw the operations and the grounds there for more than 20 years. He was born in Ardmore a and lived most of his life in Belmont Hills. He graduated from Lower Merion High School and served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Lower Merion Rod and Gun Club, Federation of Sportsman's Clubs, the Golf Club Superintendents of America, American Legion Post 857 in Belmont Hills and the Narberth Watershed Association. He also was a member of St. Justin the Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Penn Valley. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary Gould Amadio; two children, Barbara Hillanbrand and John; a brother, six grandchildren and a great-grandson. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m.

Salmon Retired bookkeeper, 77 Ruth K. Quinn Salmon, 77, of East Lansdowne, a retired bookkeeper, died Monday at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Mrs.

Salmon, a native of Drifton, near Hazleton, worked as a bookkeeper for Acme Markets in Philadelphia for 23 years until retiring in 1981. She had resided in East Lansdowne since 1958 and was a member there of the Church of St. Cyril of Alexandria. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John R. Salmon four children, John R.

Craig Michael J. and Bethann Gamber; two sisters, two brothers, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Cyril of Alexandria, Penn Boulevard, East Lansdowne.

Holy Sepulchre Cem. STRENGER Ashley Halsey 89, a reporter and editor for the former Philadelphia Record and later a magazine editor and author, died of respiratory failure Tuesday at his home near Columbia, S.C. Mr. Halsey, who was born in South Carolina, joined the Record in 1936 as a reporter and later became an editor. In World War II he was a public information officer at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

After his discharge as a lieutenant commander, Mr. Halsey became a writer and an associate editor for the Saturday Evening Post magazine. He remained with the Post until the 1960s. Afterward, he taught journalism at the University of South Carolina for two years. In 1966 he became director of publications for the National Rifle Association.

He retired in 1976. Mr. Halsey enjoyed sailing and collecting Confederate weapons. Surviving are a son, Ashley; 3d; three daughters, Eleanor, Rowena Mayer and Margaret Brinton; two brothers; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services and burial will be held later.
