(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
The four major languages of Aruba are the local Papiamento, Dutch (as Aruba was colonized by The Netherlands), English and Spanish (due to Aruba’s location in the Caribbean, it was seen as important that Arubans be able to speak those two other languages, as many neighboring islands in the Caribbean speak one of those two languages.)
Honestly, I think the biggest difficulty for our players in this Final Jeopardy will be one of time management—I anticipate that “Dutch” will be written down very quickly, with the other two being “what else could it be?” guesses near the end of the 30 seconds—my biggest concern is that a player isn’t going to leave themselves enough time to write down “English” and “Spanish” at the end of the clock. I personally don’t have an issue with “keeping track of 30 seconds” being an important gameplay skill—but I also understand that my opinion on this subject isn’t going to be universal. (I’d leave further thoughts on this today, but it’s close enough to a subject that I was going to talk about anyway in my editorial tomorrow such that I’ll touch on it in my Weekly Thoughts.)
